I passed my Coastal Navigation Course in 1928.

I was

then taught and have since used it as a rule of practice, to allow

a lag of 40 minutes between the times of tide as shown in Fort

Tide Tables, and times of tides in Deep Bay.

I estimate that when I took the position of the junk at 16.00 hours on 18th September, 1939, it was then about å tide

on the ebb, and I estimate there was then about 4 feet of water

above chart soundings in that locality,

A fishing junk of this type draws in my estimate from

5 to 6 feet under normal conditions. The free board from

waterline to gunnel approximates another 5 or 6 feet. From the

appearance of the junk when I saw it, it appeared to be aground in about 134 feet of water with only the burnt out after part

showing about 2 feet above water.
